One dead, two injured in crashes

Colm Kelpie

A MAN died and two people were seriously injured in three separate traffic accidents.

Farmer PJ Garrett (59) was driving alone near Belmullet in Co Mayo when his car hit a wall shortly before midday.

It is not yet clear what caused the single-vehicle accident.

Two hours earlier a man suffered serious injuries after falling off the back of a lorry that was delivering milk in Dublin city centre.

The 28-year-old was rushed to St James' Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

And a 25-year-old man was also seriously injured after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a road barrier on the Naul Road in Co Dublin at about 1.40pm.

He was being treated at Beaumont Hospital last night.
