One dead, two hurt in violent Kilkenny house party row

The man was taken to St. Lukes hospital where he was prnounced dead reporters

GARDAI in Kilkenny are investigating the murder of a young man who was found stabbed to death after a house party. Two other men were injured in the incident in the early hours today.

The dead man was named as Kieran Monaghan, (21) from Durrow, Co Laois, who had been living in Kilkenny.

Gardai were called to an apartment at Larchfield court at 1.30am where they found Mr Monaghan suffering from serious stab wounds, a 27-year-old man with less serious stab wounds and a 35-year-old man with head injuries.

Mr Monaghan was found on the street in front of the apartment and pronounced dead after his arrival at St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny.

The two other men are recovering in hospital.

The 27-year-old man’s injuries are not life threatening and the 35-year-old man, who is understood to have been living in the apartment, is under arrest.

State pathologist Dr Maire Cassidy was today carrying out a post mortem examination on the dead man and garda technical teams have sealed off the area of the incident.

Details of the argument that broke out between the friends are sketchy, but neighbours said there were regular parties at the apartment.

Gardai said that the row was particularly violent.

It is not known if Mr Monaghan made his own way to the street outside or if he was carried out.
