Boxing legend Michael Carruth was happy to fight the good fight at the Irish Film Institute to encourage film-goers to put themselves in the shoes of those living with Cystic Fibrosis.

The Olympic gold medallist launched a new minute-long cinema ad called 'Fight to Breathe' yesterday which features a day in the life of Castleknock native Edelle Collins and illustrates her constant struggle to breathe due to the chronic lung disease.

"For me, jumping into a ring and fighting for survival was a choice. The sad reality is that for people with cystic fibrosis there is no choice. Life is a constant battle for survival.

"That's why I'm delighted to lend my support to this campaign which brings home in dramatic fashion the heart-breaking reality of how challenging life for people with cystic fibrosis is," he said.

The ad runs in cinemas nationwide starting today.
