Old Lady of D'Olier St moves to council house
THE Irish Times, known as the Old Lady of Dublin's D'Olier Street, is to move to Tara Street. After 110 years, the newspaper's offices are being sold and the paper is moving to new offices owned by Dublin City Council.
City councillors have yet to rubber-stamp an agreement which would see the newspaper leasing an eight-storey 42,000 sq ft building at the junction of Tara Street and Townsend Street, with an option to buy at a later date.
The new offices, named Liffey House, occupy a site which previously housed the then Corporation's by-law and fire department.
The Irish Times is hoping that the clock bearing the paper's name, which is attached to the old offices, will also move to the new building.
