Old and new unite at games showcase
A 72-year-old man has wooed the computer gaming industry with a 40-year-old board game at a showcase of some of the country's best young programmers.
Brian McCarthy (72), from Dun Laoghaire, proved age is anything but a barrier by securing a commitment to have his successful 1970s board game, The Power Game, developed for the lucrative digital games market and launched globally within three months.
Mr McCarthy pulled off the coup at the 10th annual LIT Thurles Games Fleadh – Ireland's leading digital games programming festival.
The commitment will see the Dubliner's game launched exclusively on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 Devices and the new Microsoft surface tablet after it is digitised by Thurles-based game developers Atom Split Games over the coming months.
