OISIN O'Gorman is the youngest member of this year's Irish transplant athletics team.
The nine-year-old, from Lismore in Co Waterford, yesterday jetted out to the World Games in Sweden, which begin this weekend.
He needed a kidney transplant in 2009 after falling off his bike. The handlebars struck his side, leaving him with a lacerated kidney which had to be immediately removed.
It was then discovered he had been born with only one kidney. Oisin had dialysis for a number of months before his dad Kieran donated his kidney.
His dad has travelled with him to Sweden.
The team departed from Dublin Airport yesterday, with new figures showing an increase in organ donation giving them a timely boost.
Some 127 transplants had taken place up until June 17, which compares favourably with a total of 166 for the entire calendar year in of 2010.
