The father of Oisin O'Driscoll remembered his son as a sensitive little boy who was confident and "wise beyond his years".

Shane O'Driscoll fought back tears as he gave an emotional eulogy at a funeral service for his seven-year-old son on Friday.

Oisin was killed by his mother Sinead Higgins (37) at their home in Ruislip, West London, before she took her own life, according to British police.

Their bodies were found after Shane raised the alarm when Oisin did not turn up for school.

The boy's parents were no longer in a relationship.

Oisin's white casket was placed before the altar in Holy Redeemer Church in Bray, Co Wicklow.

His London-based father is from Bray and had been an altar boy at the church as a schoolboy.

Shane told the congregation that Oisin loved his mother "despite her troubles". "Oisin touched so many hearts in his short life," he added. "He was a very sensitive little boy who was wise beyond his years.

"Oisin and I had a very special bond. He will always be seven years old and will be spared the hardship and heartache involved in growing up but he has also been robbed of all the experience he would've had."
