Nuns Kindle hope to help calm the soul

John Fallon and Declan Rooney

NUNS in an enclosed order have produced a book of prayer aimed at helping people cope with modern life and the recession.

The 13 Poor Clares in Galway city penned 'Calm the Soul: A book of simple wisdom and prayer'.

"Our life revolves around prayer and a large part of it is intercession for those who come to us or write for prayers and, also, for a wider world," said Sr Colette, Mother Abbess.

"We are conscious that when people are troubled, they find prayer difficult, as we all do at times. And sometimes people may think that what they want isn't even worthy of a prayer. We hope our book will be helpful."

It is being released to coincide with the start of the Year of Faith.

The nuns hope the book will help people cope with financial difficulties, depression, suicide, childlessness, unwanted pregnancies and sickness.

It costs €15.99 and is published by Hachette Ireland.
