Not all fans allowed to fly the flag at game

WE'VE had some classic flags during the tournament.

"Merkel thinks we're working", the Neilstown social welfare flag, the "I suppose a ride is out of the question" flag and yesterday's unveiling in Gdansk of "Miracles can happen" and the "Is there anything to be said for another Mass?" flags.

But some were taken from fans as they entered the stadium last night, due to Polish rules that flags of certain sizes can't be hung in the stadium.

We know how attached people can get to their flags, so Irish gardai last night watched over the flags being taken from some fans in the unlikely event of trouble flaring up. And don't worry -- fans were able to retrieve them after the game.
