No X factor-style cull as Roses pruned ahead of contest
The Roses have been pruned - and the first 16 to take The Dome stage during the Tralee festival have been confirmed.
The remaining 16 will be selected at a private breakfast this morning.
Organisers of the festival have changed this year's selection process considerably after they came under fire for 2016's brutal 'Rose Cull', where the Roses were divided into two rooms and in true X Factor style they were told if they had made it through. All of the tears were filmed as part of RTÉ documentary 'Road to the Dome'. But some Roses were deeply upset.
This year the selection process has been much more discreet. The first 16 were announced at a Celebration of Roses event in the Dome. The first 16 came from Down, Dublin, Fermanagh, Florida, Galway, Germany, Hong Kong, Kildare, Limerick, Offaly, San Francisco, South Carolina, Sydney, Texas, Toronto and Yorkshire.
