Some An Post staff in the Dublin 6 area are carrying out a 'wildcat' strike today.

No mail service will be operating in the area due to the industrial action and customers are being asked not to post in postboxes in the area.

Some of the areas in Dublin 6 include Rathmines, Ranelagh, Rathgar and Terenure.

Post office services will not be affected by the strike.

In a statement, An Post said that "due to local unofficial industrial action by postal delivery staff based at Rathmines Delivery Unit, there will be no mail deliveries in the Dublin 6 area today."

The company has called on staff to "cease this disruption to customers by returning to normal working and allowing any issues to be dealt with through the established industrial relations procedures for handling workplace grievances."
