No foul play in death of jail officer
THE sudden death of a female prison officer whose body was found in her home on Saturday morning is not being treated as suspicious, writes Paul Melia.
Gardai yesterday said they had ruled out foul play in the death of Deirdre Duggan (44), who worked in Mountjoy Prison and was found dead at the home she shared with her female partner at Templeview Grove in Clare Hall, Dublin 17.
Her partner called the police after finding her unconscious, but she had died by the time emergency services, including gardai from Coolock, arrived shortly after midnight.
Her body was taken to the city morgue in Marino, where a post-mortem examination by deputy state pathologist Michael Curtis confirmed the death was accidental.
It is understood that Ms Duggan, who was out socialising earlier in the evening, hit her head in a fall and later bled out in bed.
