A woman, who almost binned her lotto ticket while cleaning out her car, has won over €117,000.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought the winning quick pick ticket at the White House Shop in Baldoyle in Dublin.

Collecting her prize at the National Lottery headquarters on Tuesday, she admitted that, even though she regularly buys Lotto tickets, she rarely checks them for any wins.

The woman said she was cleaning out her car when she found the winning €117,023 ticket and decided to put it aside to check at a later time.

She explained: “I was clearing some rubbish out my car on Sunday, including some old lottery tickets. This one ticket was just glaring at me in between my two front seats so I put it aside to check later.

“When I went into the shop to scan my ticket, the shop keeper and I were absolutely dumbstruck, I don’t know which of us got the biggest shock.”

She also said: “As a long time Lotto player, I regularly purchase my Quick Pick tickets but I very rarely ever check them until I hear about a local winner.

“I have bundles of out of date tickets in my house and in my car and sometimes we laugh that I’ve probably already won the Lotto jackpot ten times but I never found out about it."

The woman has now downloaded the National Lottery App so she can keep up to date by checking future tickets on her phone.

She also urged lotto players to “constantly check their tickets”.

“Just because a big jackpot isn’t won in your area, it could still be worth a lot of money, I am living proof of that.”
