'We are finally able to buy our own home!' - Honeymoon continues for newlyweds who scooped €500,000 in Euromillions draw
A newlywed couple are celebrating all the more after winning a €500,000 Euromillions prize.
The Kildare couple, who wish to keep their win private, are ecstatic that buying a house is now a possibility for them.
“We are currently living in rented accommodation at the moment and we were resigned to the fact that we probably would never have been in a position to buy our own home. We know exactly where we want to live so we will start home hunting in the next couple of days,” the husband said at the National Lottery Office today.
“We’re only recently married and with our work commitments, we were not in a position to take time off for a honeymoon. We’re going to make some arrangements and make sure we get away for a romantic break in January,” the couple said.
The couple won their prize in last Friday’s draw, but only realised their luck on Monday when the husband checked his tickets on his day off work.
“After buying the ticket on Friday evening, I had a long weekend in work so I was really looking forward to my day off on Monday. In the morning, I picked up the ticket and checked it on my phone.
“I was absolutely stunned when I saw the winning numbers and it only sank in after I confirmed the win with the National Lottery. I made my way up to where my wife works and when we saw each other, we just cried tears of joy as we hugged,” he said.
These lucky winners bought their Quick Pick ticket in the News 4 U newsagent at the Glenroyal Shopping Centre in Maynooth last Friday.
This Friday’s Euromillions jackpot is a guaranteed €17m.
