This cat has only eight lives left after it was rescued from the River Liffey in Dublin this week.

Dramatic footage shows a rescuer throw a lifebuoy to the stricken feline on Wellington Quay, in Dublin.

There are tense scenes as the cat scrambles on board and is pulled it up slowly.

Crowds of onlookers shouted encouragement as the cat clung on while it was hoisted up to safety.

The heroic rescue was filmed by Mark Malone, who was stood on the northside of the river as the drama unfolded.

And while this cat may have spent one of its nine lives, reports say it is 'feline' fine now.
