Two women rescued off Kerry coast have died

The two women who were fighting for life in hospital after being rescued from the water off the Kerry Coast have died.

The women, believed to be in their sixties, were both rescued at Inch Strand after getting into difficulties at around 7pm.

The emergency services were alerted immediately and CPR was performed on the beach by medical staff.

The coastguard rescue helicopter was ordered from Shannon, and they were airlifted to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee.

Gardai and ambulances also attended the scene and took part in the rescue operation.

The two women later passed away in hospital.
