Two women arrested in connection with Temple Bar attack that led to death of father-of three

Two young women have been arrested as part of the investigation into the death of a father-of-three in Dublin's Temple Bar last week.

Gareth O'Connor (27) from Harelawn Avenue in Clondalkin, Co Dublin, passed away almost 24 hours after the violent attack on Thursday September 10.

The father of three was socialising with a group of friends at about 8.45pm on Thursday evening at Cow's Lane, Temple Bar when the incident occurred.

The two women, both aged in their early 20's, were detained in connection with this investigation today at Pearse Street garda station.

One of the women has been released from Garda custody without charge while the second woman remains in custody.

Four people who were being held in connection with the attack were released without charge on Friday.

A file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí investigating the assault are interested in speaking to a number of people who they believe recorded the melee on their mobile phones.

They have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or were in the vicinity of Cow’s Lane between 8.30pm and 9 pm on September 10 to come forwward.
