Two 'pipe bombs' discovered in separate incidents within last 12 hours
Two suspected pipe bombs were discovered overnight and this morning in the south of Ireland.
The army bomb disposal team were called to Limerick city last night after a suspect device was found in Upper Gerald Griffith Street.
A cordon and traffic restrictions were put in place for public safety while the team investigated the scene at approximately 1245am.
The suspect device was rendered safe at the scene by 130am and was then removed to a military location for further testing.
In a separate incident, gardai in Cork city requested assistance from the Defense Forces team after the discovery of a suspect device in the Knocknaheeny area.
Up to 11 houses were evacuated at approximately 945am while the bomb disposal team worked to declare the item and scene safe.
The cordon and traffic restrictions were lifted just before 11am this morning.
All items of an evidential nature will be handed over to the Gardaí to assist them with their investigations.
