Two men remain in garda custody this evening following an attempted armed robbery at a Dublin post office earlier today.

At approximately 10.55am, two men pulled up outside the post office at Kilnamanagh in a red Toyota Carolloa.

The men, one of whom is believed to have been armed with a hammer, entered the post office and demanded cash.

No money was handed over and the two men fled the scene in the red Toyota, which was subsequently found burnt out at Treepark Road.

From Treepark Road, it is believed the two men, aged in their 30s and 40s, made their way on foot towards Tymon North.

At this stage, the individuals were intercepted by gardai responding to the incident and were arrested.

Both are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice act at Tallaght Garda Station.
