Two arrests in Garda operation targeting dissident republicans
Two men in their 50s are in garda custody in connection with an investigation into dissident republican activity.
Searches have been carried our across Dublin yesterday and today, led by the Special Detective Unit and Emergency Response unit.
Several firearms were found during the planned searches in Ballymun, East Wall and Cloughran, including a sawn-off shotgun, semi-automatic pistols and a AK47 rifle. Bomb making materials were also found at one premises.
The Garda Technical Bureau is still at one of the scenes, where a controlled explosion was carried out.
The operation has been described as 'very significant' by a senior detective.
Two men are in Garda custody at Mountjoy and Coolock Garda Station and are being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of The Offences Against the State Act.
