Gardaí have arrested two people and seized a large quantity of cocaine during a search in Tipperary.

Gardaí  from a number of units conducted the raid yesterday.

A car was stopped and searched in Birdhill, Co Tipperary on Thursday.

During the search gardaí recovered a quantity of cocaine worth an estimated €70,000.

Further searches were carried out at a house in Newmarket-on-Fergus where drug paraphernalia including a weighing scales and packaging were discovered.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were arrested during the operation.

Both are currently detained in Shannon Garda Station under section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act, 1996.

Gardaí have sent the quantity of cocaine in for analysis.
