Tributes paid to 'very liked' garda after crash death

The family of the off-duty garda who was tragically killed in a crash are preparing to say their final goodbyes to the "very well liked" man.

Garda David Bolger (31) died in the single car collision after his car struck a ditch close to Ballyedmond in Co Wexford on Wednesday night. He was the sole passenger of the car.

The car was discovered by a passing motorist at about 11.40pm.

A father of three young children, Garda Bolger was currently serving in Newtownmountkennedy.

"He was an absolute gentleman. He had a great relationship with young people in the community and helped establish Neighbourhood Watch programmes locally," said Independent Cllr Daire Nolan, from the town where he worked.

Garda Bolger will be buried after an 11am funeral mass tomorrow morning in Gorey.
