Tributes paid to 'lovely lady' who died in Wicklow house fire

An elderly woman (aged in her 80s) has died after a fire broke out in a house in Co Wicklow.

At around 12.30pm this afternoon gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of a domestic fire in a house on Sea Road in Arklow.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire has been brought under control and a full technical examination of the scene will now take place.

A garda investigation is underway.

It is understood that the fire is not believed to be suspicious.

One local councillor paid tribute to the elderly victim and said the entire community was in shock.

Fianna Fáil councillor Tommy Annesley told Independent.ie that it was unclear at this stage how the fire started.

The victim was a "lovely lady".

"Its a very tragic death in our community," he added.
