'Tragic accident' as two-year-old boy found dead in Limerick city apartment

The body of a two-year-old boy has been found in Limerick city this evening.

Emergency services and gardai responded to the scene at an apartment in Parnell St at approximately 430pm.

Gardai are not treating the death as suspicious but as a "tragic accident".

The boy's remains have been taken to University Hospital Limerick for examination.

The attending coroner has advised the State Pathologist's Office of the incident.

A postmortem is due to be carried out by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis tomorrow.

A garda spokesperson told independent.ie that the results of this examination will determine what investigation will be carried out in relation to the tragic incident.
