Tourists have lucky escape as car teeters off Kerry cliff
A couple from Taiwan had a lucky escape today as their car almost plunged off Ladies View in Kerry.
The incident occurred at about 1pm on Friday, when the Ladies View cafe was busy with lunchtime diners.
The couple - believed to be in their 20s - had intended to park their car at the popular scenic spot which offers views of Killarney National Park.
However, it appears that instead of hitting the brake, the driver of the car hit the accelerator instead.
The rented black Renault car surged over the edge of a cliff but came to a halt when it hit a rock on the other side of the cliff.
Staff from Ladies View café rushed to the couple's aid.
Speaking to Radio Kerry, cafe owner Raymond O'Shea said: "A young couple from Taiwan attempted to park and I think what happened instead of hitting the brake they must have hit the accelerator and drove right over the top of the wall.
"Fortunately they didn't get very far. They could have gone a lot further down.
"They were stopped by a rock on the other side of the road."
He added: "They got out of the car uninjured thankfully, which was great."
