Eir has confirmed that some customers were without TV and broadband services for a time this evening.

Thousands of customers were without broadband and TV services on Friday afternoon.

Parts of Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Meath, Louth, Kerry and Sligo were affected by the outage.

Tweets from Eir's customer service account advised that services would not resume until October 3: "There is an outage in your area. Our technical team is working on it. The forecasted restore time is 3 October 2017 13:00."

However, a spokesperson for Eir confirmed that there was an error made with the information sent out on Twitter.

"There was an outage for between 30-60 mins around 1700 that impacted broadband customers but service has been fully restored.

"Services have been fully restored for two hours."
