Surfer trapped at base of Cliffs of Moher hospitalised following helicopter rescue
A surfer caught at the base of the Cliffs of Moher has been winched to safety.
The alarm was raised earlier yesterday evening when the surfer was reported as missing at 7.30pm.
However, it subsequently emerged he made it ashore beneath the 700foot cliffs.
A rescue helicopter from Sligo eventually winched the man to safety shortly before midnight.
An RNLI lifeboat from the Aran Islands also assisted in the successful rescue.
The man was immediately brought to hospital following the incident.
