Sun shines for summer solstice, but rain to return mid week
Good news for those at Body and Soul festival in Ballinlough Castle, Co Westmeath, who can forgo the wellies today and celebrate the longest day of the year while the sun still shines.
However we should make the most of the calm weather this weekend: clouds and rain will return mid week.
We will hold on to this dry settled weather today, Sunday and Monday, with temperatures in the range of 17-20 degrees celsius.
Sunday and Monday clouds will creep back in however the temperature will remain warm, with highs of 22 degrees celsius.
Today will be the brightest day across the whole country but warm, pleasant sunshine will continue in the south and southeast until mid week.
From tomorrow, counties in the north and west can expect clouds and temperatures only reaching the mid teens.
“Clouds will start to fill in and there will be no huge amount of sun. It will be pretty unsettled from Wednesday on with a high likelihood of rain for the rest of the week,” a spokesperson from Met Eireann told the Independent.ie.
Fire up the BBQs, while the going is good.
