TALKS at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) between Irish Rail management and train drivers have broken down this evening.

Representatives for the unions involved in the discussions, Siptu and the National Bus and Railworkers’ Union (NBRU), confirmed that the discussions had collapsed as they emerged from the LRC shortly after 7pm.

They had warned earlier this week that industrial action is on the cards unless progress is made in the area of pay and conditions.

A spokesperson for the NBRU said the talks broke down on the basis that Irish Rail “were not willing to engage on past productivity”.

He said the Loco Drivers Committee will meet next Tuesday to discuss their next move.
