Gardai are investigating an aggravated robbery of a filling station in Louth overnight not far from where Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe was shot dead during a botched credit union raid.

The incident happened at the station in Bellurgan at 9pm.

Staff who were locking up at the time were confronted by two men who had their faces covered and were brandishing firearms.

They were brought back in to the shop for a time but the gang left empty-handed a short time later.

One of the raiders is described as being 6ft tall, while the second man is 5ft 6ins in height.

In January 2013 Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe was killed at the nearby Lordship Credit Union after getting out of his garda vehicle to investigate a suspicious car in the car park.
