Skeletal remains discovered at house by construction workers confirmed as human

Skeletal remains which have been found at a house in Co Louth have been confirmed as human.

The grim discovery was made by construction workers on a site in Dundalk town on Wednesday afternoon.

Gardai were contacted after the remains were unearthed at the Mary Street North site at around 5pm.

Officers attended the scene and contacted the local coroner. 

The services of a forensic anthropologist were sought and, following preliminary examinations, gardaí have confirmed the remains discovered are human remains.

The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and the scene is currently preserved.

A gardai investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.
