Seven men have been arrested after gardai discovered weapons in a van being driven in North Dublin.

Gardai stopped the vehicle on Rosemount Avenue in Artane, North Dublin, this afternoon at approximately 1.15pm.

The move was part of an intelligence led operation carried by the recently amalgamated Organised Crime Unit and National Drug Unit.

It is believed the gang were en route to a planned armed robbery.

A firearm and a number of other weapons were recovered from the van.

Three men were arrested at the scene.

Another three men, who were travelling in a car close to the van, were also arrested.

A seventh man was arrested a short distance away from the incident.

The seven men are detained under Section 30 Offences Against The State Act at Coolock, Ballymun, Clontarf and Raheny Garda Station.s.

No shots were fired during the incident and investigations are ongoing.
