A search for a diver missing of the coast of Co Donegal has been stood down for the night due to fading light.

The man went missing shortly after 2.30pm when he was diving with a group 14 miles north west of Mallin Head.

Group members on a dive boat reported him missing after failing to see him resurface.

The Sligo-based Rescue 118 helicopter was sent to the scene and an emergency Mayday call was put out to vessels in the area.

A life boat from Lough Swilly carried out searches with a number of local boats but were unsuccessful in locating the diver.

Search efforts will resume again at first light.
