RTE Radio 1 suffered a bit of a false start on its early morning news and weather show today.

Shay Byrne’s Risin’ Time, which runs from 530am to 7am every weekday morning, was due to report news, weather and read from the national papers at 6am.

However the news jingle to announce that section of the show was followed by a period of silence which was quickly substituted for recorded music.

Don't worry Eamon, it can happen to the best of broadcasters

Presenter Shay apologised to listeners for the delay in service and the show resumed at 620am with the breakfast news, followed by a brief review of the morning papers.

"I'm wide awake now after running up and down the stairs 11 times," he joked, a comment presumably in relation to fixing the blunder.

The news bulletin ran as usual from 630am with Brian Dowling who also caught up on the weather update missed due to the earlier interruption.
