Revenue dog sniffs out 10,000 cigarettes and €7k cash

Some 10,000 cigarettes, 10kgs of tobacco, two cars and €7,000 in cash have been seized in raids by the Revenue.

The intelligence-led operation on the northside of Cork City was carried out under warrant at a number of private homes.

Detector dog Harvey assisted in the searches.

Two Irish men, one in his 50s and the other in his 30s, were questioned.

The seized tobacco products, including cigarettes branded ‘Jin Lin’, ‘Winston’ and ‘Marlboro Gold’ and tobacco branded ‘EastEnders’, have a retail value of €10,370 with a potential loss to Revenue of €8,100.

A file is being prepared with a view to prosecution.

Amounts of cannabis were also found in two of the searches, which Gardaí from Gurranabraher and Watercourse Road are investigating.
