Revealed: How many pubs are in each county of Ireland... and where to find the fewest people per pub
A new study by AIB has revealed which county has the most pubs per head of population.
AIB’s 2018 Pubs Outlook looked at a number of issues affecting the pub trade in Ireland and it found that keep their doors open pubs in Ireland need to be turning over between €8,000 and €13,000 a week.
However, the report also detailed the number of pubs in Ireland, illustrating the county in Ireland with the most pubs, plus the county that has the most pubs per head of population.
Cork comes top of the list, with 955 pubs in the county.
This is almost 200 more than the next biggest county, Dublin, which has 772 pubs.
Dublin comes bottom of the list when it comes to pubs per person, with each pub accounting for 1,649 people in the capital. The comparable figure for Cork is 543.
The county with the fewest people per pub is Mayo, with 323 people for every pub in the county.
Other counties with low numbers of people per pub include Kerry (one pub for every 334 people), Tipperary (one pub per 350 people) and Clare (one pub for every 383 people).
