'Rest in paradise, little bro' - family lead heartbreaking tributes to boy (16) killed on way to school

Family members have paid heartbreaking tributes to the 16-year-old boy who passed away yesterday following an accident on his way to school on Monday.

The boy, named locally as Dane Loakman, was struck on the Clane Road, Sallins, Co Kildare, at about 7.45am on Monday.

He was rushed to Naas Hospital and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he passed away in hospital yesterday.

Social media was flooded with tributes to the popular schoolboy today, with Dane's brother posting an emotional tribute on Facebook last night.

"Rest in Paradise little Bro... ️Gone but never forgotten... Can’t remember a time where you weren’t smiling... God only takes the best...️ Truly heartbroken...️ Until we meet again."

Others on social media also paid tribute to the teenager.

One said: "Saddened to hear of the passing of Dane Loakman following yesterday's tragic accident."

Another said "R.I.P Dane Loakman may u rest in peace angel u will be sadly missed just cant believe it" while another posted "R.I.P Dane Loakman you wont be forgotten brother we will make sure of it. God takes the brightest soilders."

Sallins Celtic, who Dane played for, also posted a moving tribute on their Facebook page.

It read: "It is with great regret we find ourselves posting our condolences to the family of Dane Loakman ! Dane was a part of our club just like his mother Alison & brother - a great energetic & well mannered kid who will be sadly missed & remembered by us all ! RIP Little Man #CommunityTogether !"

Local Fianna Fail councillor Carmel Kelly told Independent.ie that the news was "devastating" for the family and for the town.
