THE Dáil's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is to invite tech giants and other multi-national companies to quiz them on their understanding of the Irish tax system.

Chairman, Fianna Fáil TD Seán Fleming has proposed asking Apple, Google, JP Morgan, Citibank, Glaxosmith Kline and Pfizer to appear before TDs in the new year.

Mr Fleming said that major companies have appeared before parliamentary committees in other countries.

At the PAC meeting this morning, Mr Fleming expressed a hope that they would do the same here.

He acknowledged that the companies would be attending on a voluntary basis.
