Criminals are using a rural post office "like an ATM", its manager has claimed.

Postmistress Michelle Percival works at Ballycanew Post Office, Gorey, Co Wexford, which was robbed twice in just three months.

"They just want whatever cash is in the drawer and make off," she said.

The branch was held up on Monday when a gunman in a balaclava entered the shop just after 10am, pointed a gun at staff and demanded cash.

He made off with a small sum of money and pointed a gun at a staff member who followed him.

He then ran off in a laneway near Goslin's Pub. A silver Toyota Corolla with one occupant was seen leaving a short time afterwards.

Ballycanew Post Office was also held up in May when a different staff member was confronted by a gunman.
