"A plague of flies" has invaded people's homes, Labour Senator Kevin Humphreys has claimed.

The Dublin bay representative said that people in the Ringstown/Irishtown area are being bothered by the insects.

He has vowed to get to the root of what has caused the infestation.

Mr Humphreys wrote on Facebook this evening: "I have been contacted by residents in the above areas who are plagued by flies in their homes...

"I have highlighted this problem to the Council and requested that an investigation take place immediately to resolve this problem for residents."
When contacted by Independent.ie Mr Humphreys said that there could be a number of factors that has caused the swarm of flies but he isn't keen to "speculate" until he gets a response from DCC.

He also said that he has received a "huge" response to the post from people who are bothered by the flies.
