Lotto terminals ceased operating nationwide today during a 40-minute outage.

The outage occurred between 2.20pm and 3pm this afternoon.

A spokesperson for the National Lottery said: "The issues were resolved and the system seems to be operating normally."

She said it is not yet know what caused the outage.

This is the third time in recent weeks that the retailers have been hit with outages on the lottery network.

Earlier last month the Lottery had to postpone a weekly prize draw for the first time ever after a network crash.

On Friday, terminals crashed for two hours.

This week's Lotto jackpot is heading for €5.5m.

Tomorrow's Euromillions jackpot is €80m.
