Someone in Ireland has woken up €500,000 richer this morning, and the National Lottery want to help them claim their prize.

The winning ticket of last night's EuroMillions Plus draw was sold at the Petrogas Service Station in the centre on Mountmellick Town in Co. Laois.

A delighted Petrogas manager, Carol Cuddy, said that news of the win has gripped the small town in Co. Laois.

"Since we got the news about the big win last night, the town has absolutely gone mad with the excitement, it’s brilliant," she said today.

"I think the whole town has already been through the doors of the shop this morning checking their tickets, there’s a great buzz in the community so we’ll enjoy the celebrations.

"We do get a lot of passing traffic but we are very hopeful that the winner is a local."

A National Lottery spokesperson said ut was the 27th Irish EuroMillions Plus win this year, and that the prize money is bound to help someone with their Christmas shopping budget.

"Players in Ireland continue their incredible hot streak in the EuroMillions game. So far this year, we have had 27 winners of the EuroMillions Plus top prize in Ireland and our latest lucky Laois winner will hopefully claim their €500,000 just in time for Christmas," she said.

"If you are this lucky ticketholder, be sure to sign the back of the ticket and contact our prize claims team on 01 836 4444 and we will make arrangements for you to come to the National Lottery Winner’s Room to get your prize."
