An animal rights campaigner has spoken out after a video emerged showing a man riding a pony through a Dublin bar.

The clip emerged online earlier this week showing a grown man on horseback walking through the Cabra House pub in North Dublin.

Filmed on Saturday night the video shows locals cheer as the man and animal are led through the bar.

On this morning's Dublin Talks on 98FM several callers phoned to say they had no problem with the clip.

John Carmody of the Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) then took to the airwaves to voice his anger at the events.

He told host Adrian Kennedy: "This is no laughing matter, I can assure you. I would call for this horse to be confiscated from this man sitting on top of him.

"It was mortifying, embarrassing and downright disrespectful to that poor creature. For the most part anyone that has a horse in those communities says they love their horse.

"This has gone beyond a joke."

Dublin callers were quick to say they had no issue with the video.

One local man said he knew the owner and claimed that the horse had won a race earlier that day in Co Meath.

"He's [The owner] is always looking after that horse. There is no cruelty there."
