Man walking his dog stabbed in 'unprovoked' attack outside shopping centre

A man was rushed to hospital this afternoon after he was stabbed multiple times while walking his dog.

The victim, who is in his late 50s, was knifed outside the market cross shopping centre in Kilkenny shortly after 2.30pm in what locals have described as an "unprovoked attack".

Shoppers said the victim was walking his dog at the time.

He received injuries to his face, upper body and shoulder during the incident. He was brought by ambulance to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s, with an address in the city, in connection with the attack.

He is currently being questioned in Kilkenny garda station.
