A man has been injured following a shooting in west Dublin on Tuesday night.

The victim, a male in his early 40s, was shot in the Fortlawn estate, Blanchardstown shortly after 10pm on Tuesday.

It is understood that the casualty suffered gun shot wounds to his leg, and his injuries have been described as non-life threatening.

Sources say a man in the house answered a knock at the door at around 10pm and there was a disagreement between him and a man in dark clothing.

A number of shots were then discharged from a handgun, and the man who had answered the door was shot in the ankle.

The gunman then escaped on the back of a motorbike that was waiting on the road outside the house.

At the scene of the shooting on Fortlawn Park bloodstains could be seen on the doorstep of the house and a bullet hole could be seen in the porch door.

The front windows of the house are broken and covered over with plastic, but it is not know if this is related to last night’s incident.
