A man who was repeatedly stabbed in Temple Bar in the early hours of this morning was attempting to stop a fight.
Initial inquiries into the incident suggest the man may have been tourist but this turned out not be to the case. It's understood the victim had intervened in a fight between two people when he was attacked.
Witnesses said the man, aged in his early 30s, was stabbed repeatedly when he attempted to stop an altercation between two other men.
The incident happened outside the Club M nightclub, which was closed at the time, in the area's Cope Street.
Gardai were called and sealed off the scene while forensic officers carried out examinations of the area.
The victim was rushed to St James’ Hospital where he is believed to be in a critical condition.
No arrests have yet been made in relation to the attack, and officers from Pearse Street Garda Station are investigating.
