Man re-arrested over the death of young mother Rita at her home
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman at her Kilkenny home.
Rita Apine (29) was found at the foot of her stairs in Freshford with serious injuries last Sunday.
The Latvian woman died after being rushed to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny city.
A man in his 30s was arrested at the time but later released without charge.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that a man was arrested earlier today and is being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice at Kilkenny station.
Independent.ie has learned that this is the same man who was arrested earlier this week.
Two theories being examined by officers are that the fatal injuries suffered by Ms Apine could have happened as a result of being thrown down the stairs of her home or if the tragic mum may have been "struck with an object" which caused her to fall down the stairs at the apartment on Bridge Street.
Ms Apine moved into a rented house last December having lived for some time in Kilkenny city before that.
The suspected murder victim and her daughter moved into the private rented house in Freshford late last year, having initially sought housing from Kilkenny County Council, and previously lived at St Teresa's Terrace in the city.
Ms Apine was not working but was hoping to learn to drive later this year and seek work when her daughter started pre-school.
