Man in his 90s beaten with sticks in his own home by gang of thieves

A man in his 90s has been beaten with sticks after a four-man gang attacked him in his rural home demanding money.

The shocking incident happened in the Balrath area of Co Meath at 8.15pm last night.

Gardai say four men armed with sticks went to the pensioner’s home and threatened him and beat him as they demanded cash from him.

The were all described as being 6ft tall and wearing dark clothing, with peaked caps and scarves covering their faces.

During the aggravated burglary two men who were known to the victim called to the house and were ordered into it by the gang.

All three men were then tied up by the gang before they escaped with a quantity of cash and mobile phones.

The victims then managed to free themselves and raise the alarm.

The extent of the injuries of the elderly man are not known.
