Man in his 70s dies after house fire in Co Kerry

An elderly man has died following a house fire in Co Kerry late last night.

The fire is believed to have started shortly after 11pm at the Woodgrove houseing estate in the village of Moyvane, north Kerry.

Four units of the Limerick fire service, the gardai and medical personnel attended the scene where the man's body was discovered.

The man, who lived alone, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It took up to four hours to bring the blaze under control.

Some of the adjoining houses in the estate were also damaged in the fire.

The deceased man was brought to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee where a post mortem will be carried out later today.
