An investigation is underway this evening after a man lost his life in a collision the M1.

The crash occurred at approximately 2pm today on the M1 Northbound between junctions 14 and 15.

Two cars and a truck were involved in the collision.

The deceased was a driver in one of the cars and was the only occupant of his vehicle.

He was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and two other passengers in the second car were injured and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with non life threatening injuries.

The M1 has remained closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision investigation and will remain closed for a number of hours. Diversions are in place.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 041 687 1130 at Ardee Garda Station. People can also contact the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
